French toast – Here is Posner Bistro’s breakfast offer for January!

French toast – Itt a Posner Bistro januári reggeli ajánlata!

Every month, Posner Bistro welcomes guests of Up Hotel Budapest and those who would like to try our buffet breakfast with a new breakfast offer, taking seasonality into account. In addition to the generous selection of food and drinks, which also includes vegan and gluten-free options, the Posner team strives to come up with something special from time to time.

Breakfast chef Gábor Kapás is starting 2026 with French toast, which, despite its name, does not originate from France, but from ancient Rome. In 4th-5th century Roman cookbooks, it is referred to as “aliter dulcia,” meaning “another sweet dish,” and the recipe describes it as bread soaked in milk and eggs, fried, and served with honey. In France, it was known as “pain perdu,” meaning “lost bread,” which probably referred to the fact that cooks used dry or stale bread to make it. German, English, and Scandinavian cookbooks referred to it as “poor knights’ bread”. The name French toast first appeared in North America in the 18th century, and French immigrants made it a popular dish.

At Posner Bistro, we dip braided bread in an egg, vanilla, and cream mixture, then fry it in butter until golden brown and serve it with blueberries, strawberries, and mint. We sprinkle powdered sugar on top.
